Facial Masks

Facial masks are a beneficial addition to your skincare routine. They deliver high concentrations of key ingredients to help exfoliate, hydrate, and soothe the skin. Oftentimes, the benefits of face masks are felt immediately after application. These targeted solutions complement your daily routine by addressing specific skin concerns.

The past few years have seen an influx of facial masks in the skincare arena. With so many options to choose from, it can be difficult to discern the most effective formulas. The key is finding face masks formulated with proven ingredients that target your specific skin type and concerns. Additionally, if you have combination skin or multiple skin concerns, you may want to “multi-mask,” which involves applying several face masks on different areas to address targeted concerns by zone.

It is always best to work with a skincare professional who can assess your skin needs and provide you with a personalized product recommendation.

If you have oily or acne-prone skin, your first line of defense against breakouts should be a daily skincare regimen that decongests pores and exfoliates skin. Facial masks help supplement your daily skincare regimen by delivering additional key ingredients to exfoliate, detoxify, and balance the skin. When searching for face masks for acne-prone skin, it is especially important to look for ingredients that exfoliate dead skin cells to help prevent clogged pores from occurring. This includes formulas containing hydroxy acids such as lactic, citric, and glycolic acid. Facial masks formulated with natural earth clays such as kaolin and bentonite are also recommended, as they absorb excess oil and help decongest pores. SkinCeuticals Clarifying Clay Masque for acne-prone skin combines a 2% fruit acid blend rich in hydroxy acids to gently exfoliate dead skin cells with 11% kaolin and 11% bentonite (high-quality natural earth clays) to help decongest pores and lift impurities. Aloe and chamomile extracts help soothe and calm the skin.

Cold weather is often accompanied by a drop in humidity. Skin begins to lose its natural water content, resulting in dryness and skin sensitivity. However outdoor temperatures are not the only culprit. Moisture loss is accelerated by wind and indoor heat, which can further strip skin of moisture. All these catalyst elements can lead to a state of temporary skin reactivity, resulting in the appearance of blotchiness, tightness, and dehydration. Well-formulated facial masks can provide immediate relief by delivering a high concentration of key ingredients proven to hydrate and soothe skin.

SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Masque combines a high concentration of botanical extracts, a calming dipeptide, and hyaluronic acid to instantly cool and replenish the skin. One of our best-selling facial masks, it has also been tested and deemed safe for post-procedure after some laser treatments and photodynamic therapy (PDT).

Dry skin is caused by a lack of moisture content in the epidermis, the skin’s outermost layer. It can result from genetics, lipid depletion, sun exposure, in-office treatments, aging, climate, and the use of harsh soaps or exfoliating agents. Facial masks are a great way to enhance your daily skincare regimen with an immediate dose of hydration. However, it is important to look for face masks formulated with tried and true hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid. Found naturally in the human body, this humectant acts like a sponge that is capable of attracting and retaining many times its weight in water. Vitamin B5 is another powerful ingredient. This essential vitamin is known to help promote the skin barrier’s natural repair process.

SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 Masque delivers a highly concentrated blend of hyaluronic acid and vitamin B5 to the skin. Formulated to replenish moisture levels while leaving skin feeling smooth and supple, this is one of our best-selling facial masks.

Yes! Well-formulated facial masks can be a great addition to your skincare routine, especially if you’re looking to address specific skin concerns such as dehydration, sensitivity, and clogged pores. SkinCeuticals facial masks are available in a variety of formulations and textures to provide immediate and long-term benefits in an at-home setting. We always recommend working with a skincare professional who can provide you with a personalized product recommendation based on your skin need and concerns.

This depends on the face mask that you are using. Some face masks (such as Hydrating B5 Masque and Phyto Corrective Masque) can be left on the skin, which eliminates the need to apply additional moisturizer. In the case of facial masks that are rinsed off (like our Clarifying Clay Masque), you may wish to apply moisturizer afterwards to complete your skincare routine.

Facial masks are best applied to the skin after cleansing. Although some face masks require rinsing after a specific period of time, it’s unnecessary to wash again with cleanser.

In general, face masks are applied to the entire face, avoiding the areas around the eyes, lips, and nostrils. You can use your fingers, however using a brush to transfer the appropriate amount of product to a small bowl before application may help prevent contaminating face masks. Different facial masks can also be used on different areas to achieve desired results. Often referred to as “multi-masking,” hydrating face masks can be used on dry areas, soothing facial masks can be applied to sensitive or irritated areas, and clarifying facial masks can target oily or congested areas—all in a single session.

Always refer to the directions found on the packaging of facial masks. Many hydrating and soothing face masks can be left on for as long as overnight. However, there is generally a time limit for exfoliating face masks in order to prevent irritation.
